Intervista: MORDAX

1) Benvenuti su Metal Of Death!

In realtà abbiamo cominciato a suonare insieme a fine 2008.

As We Slay Your Gods”.

ENGLISH VERSION

1) Welcome on Metal Of Death! Officially you started in 2004, then you are relatively "young" . Do you want to talk about what you did in those six years?

We did not really start playing together before late 2008. We came up with the idea for the band and the name back in 2004 but that is all we did back then. Then in 2008 we (Ejnar and Lord Insane) got together and wrote a few songs and recorded them with Asbjørn doing the vocals and that’s how it actually started.

2. You defined as a cross between melodic death metal school in Gothenburg and the Bay Area thrash metal. Want to clarify this your approach?

Ejnar: We think it is nice to keep a simple approach to songwriting. We usually write and record the first demo for a song in a matter of just a few hours. That is the way we prefer to write songs and in that way the songs are kept nice and simple.
Jeff: Our music is inspired by the old Bay Area bands like Metallica and Testament and also by Swedish death metal bands like At The Gates, but in the end it is up to people to form their own opinion about our style.
Lord Insane: It is not really important to us to associate ourselves with any particular band, period or style.

3) "Slaughter" is just released now and is receiving good feedback from critics. Could you describe the sound contained in this ep to all those who do not yet know?

Ejnar: When we recorded these songs we talked a lot about Hatesphere’s Ballet of the Brute and how we would like to obtain that raw and unpolished sound. And most important of all, we wanted to have totally unedited drum tracks to get a natural and ”alive” sound and avoid the mechanical sound that many metal records have today.

4) For this ep you have made certain choices on production and sound. It sounds very nice and professional. Who was involved in the production of "Slaughter"?

Ejnar: Asmus Thomsen, former member of Danish thrash metal band Sacrificial, engineered all of the drums recordings, as well as some of the guitars, bass and vocals. He also played the bass on most of the tracks. Also, the former lead singer of Sacrificial John Hansen performs guest vocals on the track ”As We Slay Your Gods”.
Mads: We exploited the possibilities of a transportable Pro Tools setup and home recording when we recorded these tracks. For example most of the vocals were recorded in Asbjørn’s kitchen.

5) The feeling of the album is dark and angry at the same time I think. Do you agree?

Lord Insane: Yes.

6) What treat your lyrics?

Ejnar: We like our lyrics to be brutal and evil but at the same time most of the songs have a humorous aspect to them, like ”Eyes of the Weak” which is basically just about drinking lots of beer.
Jeff: Our music is very influenced by thrash metal but our lyrics as well as the actual sound of the vocals are much more death metal.

7) How does the songwriting process within the band? Who writes the music and those texts?

Lord Insane: As for the seven tracks on Slaughter all of the music was written by Ejnar and me., except for the song ”As We Slay Your Gods”, which Asbjørn wrote. Most of the lyrics were written by Asbjørn, Ejnar and myself together while we drank lots of beer.
Ejnar: We are currently writing some new songs and so far it has been more of a joint effort with all the band members involved.

8) You come from Denmark, how do you consider the metal scene in your country? You have friendly relations with other bands of your country?

Mads: We spend a lot of time with old friends from the town Ribe where we are all from. Many other metal bands have come out of Ribe such as, Sacrificial, Autumn Leaves, Descensus, Invisius and Aphyxion. All these bands we see on a regular basis and during the fall we play a bunch of shows with both Invisius and Aphyxion.

9) What are your future plans? By chance you have of new material in production?

Jeff: Yeah.... The plan is, for now, to put togehter a nice set for the autum shows. But during rehearsals we’ve already made a few new tracks. As well we’ve been contacted by people from both New Zealand and Brazil reguarding some distribution deals on ”Slaughter” but at the moment we’re still negotiating.

10) Thanks to the availability, close this interview as you want!

Thanks for the interview and make sure to stay up to date on www.myspace.com/mordaxdk . Hopefully we will be playing some future shows in Italy, stay metal and support the undergrund scene.
